Event

Events on Demos are publicly accessible events that are either crawled from city / state / government sources or created / posted from sources registered on Demos.

Crawled events from city / state / government sources are automatically imported from said sources, with no filters. These are all events registered and approved by the public authority for said region. Refer to Crawler to get more information about the mechanics and current sources of active crawlers

All users can interact with events in that they can save or share an event. “Saving” the event will store the event in the Saved section of the user and users will be reminded the day prior to the event, via push notification / browser notifications. This data is stored locally, on the device or the browser of the user and can be deleted by either clearing the cache of the browser or by deleting the app.

Users with an account can interact with events in that they can save, share or report an event. The user can decide which way she wants to be notified about saved events. All ways of notification that are not push notifications / browser notifications (e.g. via email, messaging service, etc.), require the user to be registered and said data to be stored in Demos’ backend to execute said notifications.

Demos Berlin e.V., the operator of Demos, assumes no liability for (the accuracy of information provided, content and execution of) and no connection to any events it does not create / post itself on Demos.

Alert

Alerts on Demos can be created by any user to stay informed and get alerted about new events on Demos based on custom criteria.

Users can set up to three different alerts.

All users can set alerts. Users will be notified about new, relevant events in the frequency chosen, via push notification / browser notifications. This data is stored locally, on the device or the browser of the user and can be deleted by either clearing the cache of the browser or by deleting the app.

Users with an account have additional options of being notified. All ways of notification that are not push notifications / browser notifications (e.g. via email, messaging service, etc.), require the user to be registered and said data to be stored in Demos’ backend to execute said notifications.

Refer to Create Alert to get more information how to create or delete an alert.

Info

Demos is trying to provide a list of relevant links to the present, public democratic process of a specific region.

The list is neither complete nor outmost helpful at its current state. If you want to help with that, check out the Contact page.

Crawler

Demos uses crawlers to import and display relevant events in the public space, published and approved by city / state / government sources.

Crawlers automatically import data from a specific source. You can find further explanations on Wikipedia

The imported events from crawlers are not filtered or in any other way moderated by Demos or its administrators. The source account of crawlers on Demos is not managed by the entity the information is crawled from.

Search for “Crawler” as Source Type (all other input empty) in source Search to see which crawlers are currently active on Demos.

Analysis

Analysis on Demos can be used to create and download data sets of all events on Demos. The data is always accumulated and does not include event details that can not be chosen as filter criteria in the analysis.

It is important to remember a few points when using Analysis on Demos.

  • The analysis only includes data on Demos and may not result a comprehensive / complete analysis of all relevant events in the selected region. Refer to Events to get more information.
  • As some events are crawled / automatically imported, there may be technical errors that result in less than all events from a data source to be imported.
  • Categorisations of events may not be available or correct. E.g. for some imported events it may not be possible to categorise topic or event type based on the information provided.

Required data for creating an alert:

  • Alert Name
  • Location

Further explanation regarding input fields / alert criteria:

If you leave any not required input field blank it will mean that all events with any value for that input field are considered for your alert. This holds true for the Event Search and source Search as well. Any defined input narrows down the alert results.

“Event Name” input field refers to the title of an event. I.e. if you want to stay informed about events with a specific word or word string in their title you can input that criteria in the “Event Name” input field. If you do not fill this out, events with any name are considered for your alert. The input does not have to resemble the single word in the event title. I.e. if you input “Klima” in the input field, events with “Klima” as well as events with “klimaneutral” will be considered for your alert.

Example 1:

User A wants stay informed about all events happening around her district. After doing Step 1 and Step 2, User A can stay informed using following input.

Alert Name: “Events in District A”
Event Name: Empty (= all events will be considered)
Event Topics: Empty (= all events will be considered)
Event Types: Empty (= all events will be considered)
Event Location: User A can either choose to drag and resize the Perimeter on the map or input the city and zip code of her district of interest
Frequency: Daily
Format: Any desired and possible

User A will now be notified daily about all new events created / imported on Demos that fit her location definition.

Example 2:

User B wants stay informed about all events in Berlin that include climate / Klima in their title. After doing Step 1 and Step 2, User A can stay informed using following input.

Alert Name: “Climate Events in Berlin” Event Name:
“Klima” Event Topics:Empty (= all events will be considered)
Event Types: Empty (= all events will be considered)
Event Location: User B can either choose to drag and resize the Perimeter on the map to fit Berlin or input the city “Berlin” in the address input
Frequency: Daily
Format: Any desired and possible

User B will now be notified daily about all new events created / imported on Demos that are happening in Berlin and have the word or word string “Klima” in their title.
